The Old Fashioned is one of the oldest and most iconic cocktails—a simple yet refined blend of spirit, sugar, and bitters. The earliest versions date back to the 18th century, often made with brandy or gin. In the U.S., whiskey eventually became the preferred base, and as bartenders began experimenting with absinthe, Chartreuse, and other liqueurs, guests with more conservative tastes started requesting an "Old-Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail" to ensure they got the original recipe.
At Njord, we’ve taken this time-honored cocktail and given it a new chapter. Instead of whiskey, we use Njord Distilled Barrel-Aged, a gin that has been aged in carefully selected barrels, developing complex flavor notes. We experiment with casks from whiskey and wine production, adding both depth and unique nuances—from smoky undertones to fruity dimensions.
The result? A Njord Old Fashioned that brings botanical elegance from gin into this classic cocktail. Still traditional, still simple, but with a depth that makes it truly special.
Bloody Good Valentine is a cocktail that celebrates the classic, the innovative, and above all, romance. It draws inspiration from the Bramble – a gin-based favorite with blackberries and lemon – but adds an extra layer with elements from the traditional shrub method, where vinegar is used to balance sweetness and acidity.
At the heart of this cocktail is Njord Distilled Comeback Quinine, a gin created with sustainability and innovative flavor development in mind. The gin reuses herbs, berries, and flowers from Njord Ligalab’s homemade tonic syrup, giving them new life in the distillation process. The result is a unique gin with delicate bittersweet notes and floral, citrusy aromas that harmonize beautifully with the cocktail’s fruity and floral ingredients.
A dramatic smoky note from a burning sprig of rosemary sets the stage for a passionate and romantic flavor experience – perfect to share on Valentine’s Day. The botanical complexity of the gin combines with fresh strawberries and blackberries, muddled into a juicy base. Fresh lemon juice and honey syrup provide a classic sweet-tart balance, while balsamic vinegar adds a cheeky edge that makes the cocktail unforgettable.
Served in a smoke-infused glass with ice, topped with a smoking sprig of rosemary, this love-inspired cocktail is adorned with fresh berries that add a touch of sweetness to the burning passion.
This elegant classic has its roots in 19th-century New York, where it was originally known as the "Sweet Martini." With its perfect balance of gin and vermouth, it quickly became a favorite in Manhattan's bars. When Prohibition swept through America, the Gin & It made its way across the Atlantic to London, where it took root among the British – not least because of their love of gin. The name "It" refers to the sweet vermouth's country of origin, Italy, which is an essential ingredient in this timeless cocktail.
With Njord Distilled Mother Nature and our Njord Ligalab Vermouth, this classic gains a Scandinavian twist. The gin, with its notes of sweet woodruff, rowan berries, and sea buckthorn, adds depth and a taste of Danish nature. Meanwhile, the vermouth contributes complexity with its base of Danish apple wine, spiced with aromatic herbs and aged in Burgundy barrels.
The result is a cocktail that combines sweetness, bitterness, and a subtle dryness – perfect to enjoy neat over ice as a flavorful appetizer.
The Martini is a matter of taste that divides opinions. Should it be stirred or shaken? Made with vodka or gin? Garnished with olives or lemon? Should it be enjoyed with a beautiful woman by your side in an Aston Martin while muscular villains chase you down winding mountain roads – or be the perfect pairing for seafood?
Our Maritime Martini, crafted with Distilled Sand and Sea Gin, is as ideal for oysters as it is for an undercover mission at a casino in Monaco. This gin is distilled with seaweed, sea beet, sea mustard, and sea kale, combined with a distillate of potatoes and barley malt. The maritime botanicals from the sea and coast add a deep, salty, green, peppery, and umami-like dimension to the cocktail.
A classic with a history as rich as its flavor. The Bee's Knees gained popularity in the U.S. toward the end of Prohibition in the early 1930s when fresh lemon juice and sweet honey elegantly masked the taste of questionable-quality gin. However, the cocktail is believed to have been invented in Paris in the late 1920s by philanthropist Mrs. Margaret Brown—better known as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," a name she earned after surviving the Titanic disaster.
We recommend making this classic with Njord Distilled Sun And Citrus: Diluted with Birch Sap. The sun-soaked herbs, berries, and flowers in this powerful yet slightly sweet gin blend beautifully with honey syrup and fresh lemon juice, creating an elegant yet wild cocktail experience.
This fresh, champagne-based classic is said to hit just as hard as a French 75 mm field cannon—a tale shared among French and American pilots who toasted with it after air battles during World War I.
The cocktail also made its way into the world of film, where Humphrey Bogart, playing Rick Blaine in Casablanca (1942), orders a French 75 as a subtle act of resistance against the German officer his former flame brings to Rick’s bar.
Inspired by the Moroccan city, we’ve added a spiced flavor dimension to the cocktail with Njord Distilled Happy Minds. Here, notes of cumin, lavender, nutmeg, and bay leaves blend seamlessly with hints of citrus, juniper, and sparkling wine—giving this classic an exciting, North African-inspired twist.
