Just like Mrs. Margaret Brown—the indomitable woman behind the classic Bee’s Knees—defied nature by surviving the Titanic disaster, the bumblebee does the same. It shouldn’t be able to fly, yet it does. The bumblebee’s pursuit of sweetness has inspired our creative reinterpretation of this timeless cocktail.
In our version, we follow cocktail icon David Embury’s lead from "The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks" by adding a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice to the classic recipe. But we take it even further by mixing it with Njord Distilled Slow Sloe gin, which brings a deep sweetness and fruity complexity that elevates the cocktail to new heights.
4 cl Distilled Slow Sloe
1 cl honey
2 cl freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cl freshly squeezed orange juice
Orange peel for garnish
1. Add gin and honey to a shaker and stir until the honey dissolves.
2. Fill the shaker with ice, add lemon and orange juice, and shake until chilled.
3. Strain into a chilled martini glass.4.
Garnish with a twist of orange peel.
Slow Sloe both builds on and challenges the proud British sloe gin traditions. Whole sloe berries and a small amount of blackberries is infused in the gin for 9 - 12 months before it is sweetened with honey from Njord’s distillery garden and bottled. The result is a gin with lots of fruit and intense notes of almond and marzipan from the kernels entwined with floral notes that partly come from the honey.
We have this special Slow Sloe gin available as well as a signature cocktail with it. If you'd like to know more about our spirit and receive special offers year round then you can sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of our page.
