Distilled Aarhus Festuge x Sara Slott

For the fifth time, the Aarhus-based distillery Njord has developed the official Festuge Gin 2025. This year, Aarhus native Sara Slott has taken Njord on a flavour journey and a spiritual foraging trip in the quest for an iconic Aarhus gin.

Sara is best known for her Olympic and European Championship medals in hurdling, as well as her place in the Danish Sports Hall of Fame and on the board of Team Denmark. She grew up near Aarhus Stadium and, as a young athlete, had the talent and determination to complete tough training sessions in all seasons. Runs through the autumn rain in the Moesgaard forests and along the beach often ended with salty sweat and sand in her shoes—but also fostered a strong sense of community and a deep connection to nature. The fact that Sara’s grueling training sessions ended with blackcurrant cordial instead of fancy energy drinks perfectly illustrates an elite athlete with solid, no-nonsense values.

The gin is distilled with sea beet, samphire, blackcurrant branches and leaves, and, of course, juniper. A herbal note from silver sage pays tribute to Sara’s Olympic silver medal in Rio and her passion for Italian cuisine. The infused blackcurrants give the gin a colour reminiscent of a red running track, adding a touch of sweetness to this complex gin.

You can also find the gin in 2025's official Aarhus Festuge cocktail. You can buy the cocktail kit here.
