Inspired by Northside Musicians
Lucky Lo and UNG-SKAB are two inspiring artists who performed at Northside Festival 2024. Our bar manager, Hannah Jerg, has translated these musical universes into two absinthe cocktails through conversations with the artists about their music. For Lucky Lo, the conversation distilled into keywords such as empowerment and the female body. She tackles heavy topics with light and has a strong connection to Mother Earth. UNG-SKAB bubbles with love, contrasts, the beach, and a strong sing-along feeling with a cocktail in hand.
Lucky Lo - Eyes Of A Woman
"Eyes Of A Woman" is a captivating cocktail that seamlessly blends an array of unique flavors to create a truly unforgettable experience. This exquisite drink features Njord Distilled Northside Absinthe, which adds a hint of herbal complexity, paired with the rich notes of Njord Distilled Sun And Citrus Coffee Liqueur. Biogan aronia juice brings a touch of tartness, balanced by the smoothness of filter coffee and the freshness of apple juice. A splash of lemon juice and simple syrup adds the perfect balance of sweet and sour, while a dash of Angostura Cocoa Bitters enhances the depth of flavors.
Simple Syrup:
10 cl Still water
100 g Sugar
Cocktail:
1,75 cl Njord Distilled Northside Absinthe
1 cl Njord Distilled Sun And Citrus Coffee Liqueur
2 cl Biogan aronia juice
1 cl Filter coffee
2 cl Apple juice
2,5 cl Lemon juice
2 cl Simple syrup
1 dash of Angostura Cocoa Bitters
Marigold and sugar cube for garnish
Simple syrup:
1. In a saucepan, heat up sugar and water over low heat until the sugar is dissolved
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool in the pan
3. Strain the syrup into a clean bottle
Cocktail
1. Brush the side of a lowball glass with sugar syrup and let the excess syrup drip off.
TIP: Turn the glass upside down so you don't get syrup on your fingers.
2. Sprinkle the dried marigold flowers over the syrup so they stick to the glass and place the glass in front of you.
3. Soak a sugar cube in absinthe. Place the cube on an absinthe spoon, and then rest the spoon on top of the glass with the marigolds. Ignite the sugar cube and let it burn while you make the rest of the cocktail.
4. Mix all other ingredients in a shaker.
5. Shake vigorously with ice until the shaker is very cold. By now, the sugar cube should have finished burning, and you can tip it into the lowball glass it is resting on.
6. Add ice to the glass.
7. Strain the mixture from the shaker into your lowball glass.
TIP: Use both a Hawthorne strainer and a fine strainer for a smooth cocktail.
This absinthe is made from distilled fennel, anis seed, wormwood, apple, anise hyssop and Cuban oregano from the distillery garden. The green colour derives from a gentle infusion of nettle from the Northside Festival site. The result is a delicate harmony between licorice-like and herbaceous notes on the top of a mild wormwood bitterness.
